It has been in the design-to-code category since 2017, which makes it the longest-running player, and counts large enterprises including Amazon and Salesforce among its customers.
Why it's different
Longevity is the real distinction. Design-to-code is a category littered with tools that produced impressively wrong output and disappeared, and the hard-won lesson is that a Figma file does not contain enough information to determine good code — the layout is pixels, not intent. Anima has spent years on that gap. Judge it on that basis and not on the demo: the output is a starting point that still needs a developer to impose structure, state and responsiveness properly. Teams expecting to ship the export unmodified are the ones who conclude the whole category does not work.
How people use it
It fits organisations with an established Figma practice and a real handover problem, where designers and developers are different people in different teams. The workflow that works is treating the export as a faithful first pass at markup and styling, then refactoring into the existing component system rather than accepting a parallel one.
