About Clearscope
What it is
Clearscope analyses the pages currently ranking for a keyword, identifies the terms and topics they cover, and grades a draft against that standard — giving writers a target to work to. It has added tracking for brand mentions in ChatGPT and Gemini answers alongside the traditional search optimisation.
Why it's different
It is the long-standing quality option in content optimisation and its reputation comes from being used by editorial teams rather than by content farms, which shows in the emphasis: the grade is a guide for a writer rather than a target to stuff keywords against. That distinction matters more now than it did, because the era of hitting a content score and ranking is over — search has become considerably more hostile to content that reads as optimised rather than written. The reasonable use of a grade today is as a completeness check, not as a goal. It is also priced well above the cheaper competitors, which is only justified if real writers are using it.
How people use it
It is used by editorial teams as a research step: before writing, to see what a subject genuinely needs to cover, and after, to catch an obvious omission. The failure mode to avoid is writing towards the score, which produces the flat, comprehensive, unreadable page that ranks briefly and converts nobody. Use it to find gaps in your coverage, then ignore it and write something a person would want to finish.
