NotebookLM is Google's AI notebook that ingests your documents, notes, and links, then answers questions, summarizes, and generates audio overviews grounded strictly in those sources.

About Gemini Notebook
What it is
Gemini Notebook, which Google shipped as NotebookLM and has since rebranded, answers questions using only the sources you give it. You add documents, slides, links or video, and it summarises, explains and answers from that material with citations, including generating a spoken discussion of your sources.
Why it's different
Restricting it to your sources is the whole design and it is the right one for research. A general assistant will answer from its training when your documents do not say, which is exactly the failure that makes these tools unusable for serious work; grounding removes it, and the citations make everything checkable. It still misreads, particularly tables and figures. It is a Google product, so consider where the material goes, and the audio feature is impressive but rarely the reason to use it.
How people use it
Working through a set of papers, reports or transcripts. Study and revision material built from your own notes. Answering questions about a long document with the source shown. Add every relevant source before asking anything, because it can only answer from what it has and a gap in the sources looks exactly like a gap in the evidence.
