About Async
What it is
Async is a chat-driven video editor, and it is what Podcastle became. Instead of a timeline you describe the edit: strip filler words, pauses, repeats and bad takes; cut to the beat of a chosen track; clean up the audio; add captions; generate B-roll or music inside the same conversation; and pull the strongest moments out as short-form clips. An editing style can be saved as a reusable skill.
Why it's different
Describing an edit rather than performing it is the whole bet, and it targets the part of video work that is tedious rather than creative - the first pass of removing everything that should not be there. That is genuinely the bulk of the hours on a talking-head video. The limits are the ones any instruction-driven editor has: you are negotiating with it rather than placing a cut, and frame-accurate or heavily layered work is faster in a real timeline. Anyone who came for Podcastle should know the audio-first studio is not what this is any more.
How people use it
Vlogs, interviews, podcasts and explainers that need a rough cut turned into something watchable. Repurposing a long video into short-form clips. Anyone who edits reluctantly and wants the filler gone without scrubbing the timeline. Save a style as a skill once you like the output, because re-describing the same preferences every time is where chat editing gets slower than a timeline.
