About Runway
What it is
Runway is a suite rather than a single generator. It creates video from text and images, and it also provides the editing tools around that: removing an object from a moving shot, replacing a background without a green screen, motion tracking, slow motion and frame interpolation.
Why it's different
The editing tools are the part that earns its place, and they are frequently the reason to be here rather than with a better pure generator. Rotoscoping a moving subject by hand is hours of work and this does it in minutes. It is well established with professional users and priced accordingly, and credits disappear quickly once you are generating rather than editing. The interface assumes some familiarity with video work and is not the gentlest place to start.
How people use it
Removing an unwanted object or person from a shot. Background replacement without a studio. Generated b-roll and inserts for a real edit. Extending or slowing existing footage. Use it for the repair jobs first, because that is where the value is most reliable and it will earn its cost before you have generated anything at all.
