TinyWow is a large collection of small, single-purpose web utilities: split or merge a PDF, strip a background out of an image, compress a video, convert a spreadsheet to JSON. Nothing installs, most tasks need no sign-in, and uploaded files are deleted an hour later. A paid tier removes ads and the queue. It is worth knowing about because a good half of the jobs people reach for a subscription to do are one page here instead.
Highlights
- Around 200 utilities across PDF, image, video, writing and file conversion
- Most tools run without an account, in the browser
- Uploads are removed after an hour
- Paid tier drops the ads and the processing queue
About TinyWow
What it is
TinyWow is a large collection of small web utilities. Split or merge a PDF, strip the background from an image, compress a video, convert a spreadsheet to another format, and a couple of hundred other single-purpose jobs. Most work without an account.
Why it's different
Nearly every one of these tasks has a paid application behind it, and for an occasional job paying for one is absurd. That is the gap it fills. It is deliberately shallow: there is no project, no history and no way to chain two operations, so it suits the one-off and not the routine. Files are uploaded to its servers and deleted after an hour, which is the important caveat, and ads are part of the free experience.
How people use it
The awkward file conversion you need once a year. Removing a background when you do not have an image editor open. Shrinking a PDF that is too large to email. Anything where installing software would take longer than the task. Do not put confidential documents through it, or anything else you would not upload to a stranger's server.
