About FLUX
What it is
FLUX is the model family from Black Forest Labs, covering image generation and editing and extending into video and audio. It is reached through their API, through the many platforms that host it, and as open weights for the versions they release that way.
Why it's different
Two things gave it its reputation: it renders legible text inside an image, which was the standing embarrassment of the field, and it follows a complicated prompt closely instead of producing something beautiful and adjacent. Releasing open weights for part of the family is the other reason it spread - it is the model a great many other tools are quietly running. The open versions lag the hosted ones, and licensing differs between them, which is worth reading before commercial use.
How people use it
Images with words in them - posters, mockups, packaging. Prompts with several specific constraints that must all hold. Local generation where weights are available. Check the licence for the exact variant you are using, because the family is not uniformly licensed and the differences matter commercially.
