About Mage
What it is
Mage is a browser front end for open image and video models - Stable Diffusion, FLUX, Wan and others - with free generation to start, on-demand credits for running any model at full speed, and memberships for unlimited use. Generations are private by default rather than published to a public feed.
Why it's different
The reason to use it over a single-model service is breadth: different open models are good at genuinely different things, and comparing them without installing anything is worth more than any one of them. Privacy by default is the other differentiator, since several free generators publish your output. What you give up is depth of control compared with running the same models locally, and quality depends entirely on the model you pick rather than on Mage itself.
How people use it
Trying several open models against the same prompt before committing. Generating without a GPU or an install. Work you would rather not have appear in a public gallery. Note which model produced an image you liked, because the same prompt on a different model is a different picture.
