About Softr
What it is
Softr builds portals and internal applications on top of data you already have - its own database, Airtable, Google Sheets, or another source - with user accounts, role-based permissions, forms, and workflows. Layouts come from a template set and an AI builder that assembles a first version from a description.
Why it's different
The permissions layer is the reason to choose it over a shared spreadsheet, and it is the part people underestimate: showing each client only their own rows is the whole difference between a document and a product. It is also the ceiling, because anything with unusual logic or heavy data eventually wants a real application. Read it as the fastest way to put a controlled interface over data that already exists, not as a way to avoid engineering permanently.
How people use it
Client and partner portals. Internal directories, inventories and request trackers. Member areas over an existing list. Model the data properly before building screens, because a portal built over a messy sheet inherits every inconsistency in it and shows them to customers.
