About Speechmatics
What it is
Speechmatics provides speech-to-text, text-to-speech and voice agent APIs, in real time or in batch. The emphasis is on conversations rather than clean recordings: strong accent coverage, speaker separation when people talk over each other, and handling speech that switches language mid-sentence.
Why it's different
Most transcription benchmarks are run on clear single-speaker audio, which is not what anybody actually records. Accent and dialect coverage is where general engines quietly fail, and failing on some accents and not others is a fairness problem as much as a quality one. Building for that is the differentiator and it shows on real material. It is developer infrastructure rather than an app - there is no interface for uploading yesterday's meeting, and pricing assumes volume.
How people use it
Products that transcribe customer calls or live broadcast. Captioning where accent coverage matters. Voice agents needing low-latency input. Test it on your worst recording rather than your clearest, because that is the one that decides whether the feature ships.
