What it is
Arthur monitors machine learning models in production: performance, data drift, bias and fairness metrics, and explainability for individual predictions. It is oriented towards responsible and auditable AI operations, with dashboards and reporting aimed at satisfying governance requirements as much as engineering ones.
Why it's different
Its focus on bias and explainability rather than only on accuracy is what separates it from general observability, and that focus is becoming less optional — regulated sectors increasingly need to demonstrate, not assert, that a model is not discriminating, and to explain individual decisions. Arthur was built for that before it was fashionable. Two things to weigh: its centre of gravity is traditional machine learning rather than generative models, and if your problem is an LLM application the LLM-native tools fit better; and it is an enterprise purchase, which is consistent with its audience but means no self-serve evaluation.
How people use it
It is used in financial services, insurance and healthcare, where a model makes decisions about people and somebody must be able to answer for them. The workflow is continuous monitoring with alerting on drift, and per-prediction explanations retained as the record.
