About Augment Code
What it is
Augment Code runs coding agents across the software lifecycle - reviewing pull requests, raising test coverage, taking a ticket through to a reviewed change, working through migrations - on top of a context engine that indexes an entire codebase rather than the file in front of you.
Why it's different
The bet is that context, not model quality, is what breaks AI assistance on real systems: a suggestion is only as good as the code it has read, and most tools have read a few thousand tokens of it. Indexing everything is the expensive, correct answer. It is also aimed squarely at organisations rather than individuals, so the pricing, rollout and value all assume a codebase big enough for the context problem to hurt. On a small repository the advantage largely disappears.
How people use it
Large or long-lived codebases where nobody knows all of it. Standardising review and test practice across teams. Modernisation programmes that would otherwise stall. Start it on a bounded, well-tested area, because the first thing an agent with full repository context can do at scale is be wrong at scale.
